Peppermint essential oil is particularly rich in menthol (characterizing monoterpene), with small quantities of sesquiterpenes. mildly anesthetic, mildly irritating to the mucous membranes so as to be widely used for therapies that concern myalgia, neuralgic disorders and inflammation of the upper airways, as spasmolytic, expectorant, decongestant and bronchodilator.

Peppermint essential oil is a food supplement with stomachic and carminative activity as well as antispasmodic, so it is used in all those cases of difficult digestion, in abdominal fermentations and nausea, even during pregnancy. It can facilitate childbirth and labor. Useful in case of colitis as an antispasmodic and in irritable bowel syndrome, it is an excellent balsamic and stimulant. Rubbed on the temples it helps in case of headache due to fatigue, in periods of study it brings mental clarity and greater concentration. Very effective against motion sickness and seasickness.

How to use Peppermint essential oil

1. Increase energy and focus

To improve concentration, use an essence diffuser in which you will insert a drop of mint essential oil for every square meter of the room. Breathing in the mint aroma is perfect when studying or needing to increase attention at work, it also helps to purify the air of germs and bacteria.

2 Against headaches

To combat headaches, dilute a couple of drops of peppermint oil using a teaspoon of carrier oil and proceed with a light massage on the temples and neck when migraine or neuralgia appears. It can be repeated a couple of times a day. Diffuse the essence in the rooms or pour two drops on the palms of the hands, rub them, bring them close to the nose and inhale.

3 Sinusitis, cold, stuffy nose

To clear the airways, spreading the mint essence is useful when you have difficulty breathing. If you are away from home, you can put two drops on a cloth handkerchief and breathe every time you want to clear your nose. Alternatively, you can make fumigations by pouring 4/5 drops of essential oil into boiling water and then breathe by covering your head with a towel and closing your eyes.

4 Muscle, joint or rheumatic pains

In this case, the mint oil can be spread on the painful areas thanks to a massage to be done using a vegetable base in which the drops of essential oil will be diluted (20 drops per 100 ml of dōTERRA fractionated coconut oil)

5 NauseaAgainst nausea, use 1-2 drops of mint essential oil diluted in a teaspoon of coconut fractionated oil and massage the abdomen lightly. Alternatively, breathe directly from the bottle when needed or pour drops on a cloth handkerchief to take with you, for example by car, train or plane. It cannot be used for nausea in pregnancy.

6 RefreshingFew essential oils give a great feeling of freshness like peppermint oil. This essence is particularly suitable for refreshing and disinfecting the oral cavity as well as fighting thehalitosis, it is no coincidence that it is very often found as an ingredient in toothpastes and mouthwashes. To eliminate bad breath, pour 1-2 drops of mint essence in a glass of water with a pinch of bicarbonate and proceed with rinsing, every morning or as needed.

7 Toning and anti-stressThe strong smell of mint helps concentration, tones body and mind and helps to remove fatigue, stress and nervousness. The best way to enjoy these properties of the mint essence is to spread it in the rooms when needed but it is also possible to use it diluted in a vegetable oil to make a relaxing massage.

8 State of supervisionPour 3-4 drops on the shower tray in the morning when taking a shower to revive yourself. Inhale the peppermint aroma while driving to promote alertness, alertness and concentration.

9 DigestiveMint oil is a strong digestive, which is why it is often recommended in aromatherapy to solve gastrointestinal problems.
